Media & PR Advisor

Location: Surry Hills, Sydney

Work Type: Full-time from April 2018 onwards (looking for immediate start, with consideration for notice period)

Salary: Suited to media and PR practitioner with at least five (5) years, full-time exp, within an agency / consultancy environment

We are seeking a confident media professional to join our growing team, working at a mid-tier level in execution and strategy development of overall media and PR across our sustainability and for-purpose clients.

What your time at The Bravery would look like: 

  • Developing strategies and recommendations for media relations campaigns to create both news and lifestyle content
  • Senior level / strategic outreach to obtain media coverage within mainstream B2B/G/C, environment and sustainability, plus relevant vertical contacts depending on the campaign
  • Developing creative and inspired tactics to support communications strategies
  • Leading a team to expanding and building upon digital, blogger, traditional, influencer and social media networks to further leverage content opportunities – including a year round calendar of media and influencer relationship development making you one of the ‘go-to’ publicists in this space
  • Working with the team to stay across both new and traditional media for coverage insights and relevant industry news
  • Leading a team to see the value in quality data, whether this is through developing digital insights or managing a good database
  • Bring your mentoring and capacity building skills to the forefront for a team of very motivated PR people, some of who are at the beginning of their PR careers. Noting that this role is not their line manager - so all the fun without the workflow management responsibilities
  • Active and face-to-face contribution with clients and sector leaders on various accounts - but no need to account manage, you are there to add value through your knowledge and experience
  • Creative writing and development of materials. These can be written, visual, long or short form
  • Working with the team to develop research, audits and sentiment reporting so you have all the stats you need at your fingertips to make your recommendations
  • Working hand-in-hand with senior team on new business development and pitches (we are a fast growing agency in this area)
  • Representing The Bravery at events, plus opportunity to conduct marketing / new business development initiatives – all with the support of the wider team 

Qualifications, experience and personality selection criteria:

  • Previous experience in the media and PR / Communications sector, agency preferred (minimum 4-6 years fulltime in total)
  • Communications / PR degree or diploma
  • Excellent knowledge of both new media, digital and traditional media channels for different audiences
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Contact list of ‘go-to’ media and influencer contacts is essential (especially in Australia's media landscape)
  • Persuasive communication and leadership style
  • Experience with MS / MAC Office - plus Keynote - is essential, Photoshop or editing skills a welcomed addition
  • Strong interest in helping to promote positive environmental and social change – and the sustainability, social cause and not-for-profit sectors
  • Having initiative, and autonomous work style, with other team members and when delivering on the big goals
  • Extensive previous experience delivering campaigns across national and state / territory regions, in both consumer and corporate audiences
  • Experience in working with a junior team member/s is important
  • Interest in learning and strong desire to increase professional skills through self learning and formal development (paid by The Bravery)

Professional and Personal Development: You will be supported, beyond the day-to-day, to develop your personal and professional skills at The Bravery. This will take the form of mentoring from the Senior Management team, and attending internal training sessions on sustainability and other communications disciplines through our tailored training program.
